Introduction to Alternative Energy
Scarcity of Fossil fuel, their contribution to global warming and at the same time, ever increasing energy demands forced us to look for different alternative and renewable energy sources. This introductory course on Alternative Energy covers the basics of different alternative and renewable energy sources mainly Biomass, Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Biofuel and Fuel cell technology. It is a great course for the beginner or someone who is completely new to the field. This course uses graphics, illustrations and videos to make each concept clear and easy to understand for both technical and non-technical personnel.
After successfully completing this course, students will:
1.Develop an understanding of different types of alternative and renewable energy sources.
2.Understand the basic fundamentals of each alternative energy technology and their working principals.
3.Understand the applications, advantages and disadvantages as well as limitation of each type of alternative energy sources.
Dr. Luxmy Begum is an Environmental Engineer with over 18 years of process, research, and project management experiences in the environment and renewable energy sector. Dr. Begum received a bachelor degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai, India; a master degree in environmental engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand and a Ph.D. Degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Begum was also a recipient of the Canadian Government NSERC Post Doctoral Research Fellowship at Environment Canada on alternative energy production (Biogas and Hydrogen). As part of her professional experience, Dr. Begum had worked with some major environmental engineering firms and served as a consultant both nationally and internationally. She has successfully managed and delivered various environmental and renewable energy projects throughout North America for municipal, provincial, and private clients.
